Re: The new randomness
Well I'm gonna go ahead and give myself a big pat on the back today.
I changed the timing belt in my Jetta by myself. Was a pretty big job, all in all it took about 10 hours for me to complete it. I started on it yesterday, finished today. I did take quite a few breaks, and it was the first time I've done it.
I spent roughly $220 on the kit, which included the timing belt, accessory belt (alternator, etc), a new tensioner pulley, and tensioner, along with a new water pump and thermostat. Most shops charge upwards of $800 for the job, so I saved at least $600. I'm lucky enough to have a shop and the tools necessary for the job, plus another vehicle to drive.
Here's a pic I took with just the cover off. Pretty much everything you see on the left side of the engine came out, all the hoses, etc. Then I took off the engine mount, and the bracket that connects it to the engine. Put a jack under the engine with a 2x4 on the oil pan and moved the engine up and down as necessary to reach what I needed to.

Re: The new randomness
Sounds awsome. I get the same feeling when I fix something.
The other day my modem fell off the counter and the ethernet jack came off the board inside the modem. I opened it up and soldered wires from the ethernet jack to the modem's board and it worked. It looks all ghetto but it works and IMO it looks cool because it looks custom haha.

Re: The new randomness
If I let them be, though, my paycheck won't still come. And that's not good.
Mass Effect is pretty cool. I'm liking the combat in it; It actually feels more like a shooter. I do have a problem with how limited ammo is though. I think I might like playing a soldier more, so maybe that would fix my problems. The customization seems a little lacking too, but I'm not very far in. Overall, I'm still happy I bought it.

Awesome in the sense that she is played endlessly on the radio. I won't judge, plus my 3 sisters and many people I know love her. To each their own.
Whenever I work out and forget my iPod I am forced to listen to 4 of her songs essentially on repeat on the St. Louis top 40 station they have blasting in the gym. It gets really annoying. Speaking of which I've concluded that top 40 stations play the same 10 songs all day, not 40. Other stations are no better, which is why I never listen to the radio.

Wow kesha (I'm not using the fucking dollar sign) is really offensively bad. Why do people like music like that? All autotuned, generic beats...She's not even attractive, so what's the point of her being in a video, let alone being a mainstream female singer? Fuck modern mainstream music. It's so bad. I keep hearing this song on the radio when I'm at the gym that has the lyric "I'm trying to find the words that describe this girl without being disrespectful" sang out in hideous autotune. That doesn't even make sense. He can't find a word to describe an appearance that wouldn't piss the girl off? Is he a fucking retard?
I don't like to sound condecending when I talk about music but honestly anything but this crap...I could find artistic merit in almost every genre of music out there. But this cookie cutter generic club pop garbage needs to die.

I'd rather listen to silence than than most songs on the radio.
What happened to when pop music was made by bands like The Beatles? I mean that was catchy, popular music that wasn't dumbed down so all the morons could enjoy it. The guys actually played all the instruments and sang all the vocal tracks. And no FUCKING AUTOTUNE.

Gotta agree with you on all that. I'd prefer to listen to static over the shit on the radio. I won't lie though, the ODD time a song will come out that I find catchy or I like. I remember distinctly when All Summer Long came out (and I hate Kid Rock) I enjoyed it a lot because it's basically the same tune as the old Warren Zevon tune Werewolves of London. So that happens now and then.

No that song was a blatant and unflattering ripoff of "sweet home alabama" by lynrd skynrd. Kid Rock is a sellout prick that was never talented.

Re: The new randomness
The sweet home alabama was fused with werewolves of london...if you listen you can hear it. It's the piano.
I liked werewolves of london.
I liked sweet home alabama.
So I got to like the song. I know it's a terrible thing, but rest assured that I listened to the separate originals of the above mentioned songs about 100x as much as I ever heard all summer long. I like Hank Williams so it's also my duty to hate Kid Rock.

Yeah. Nothing was permanently changed. If I did change it to 0, I probably used the post list count as a starting number as it actually shows how many posts you have based on the row count in the MySQL table, whereas the post count in our posts to the left here is incremented when a post is made, but not decremented when a post is removed, which is why it is possible to change the number.

The first dip I ever did was copenhagen plain and I basically threw up. I tried Skoal peach and Skoal mint and didn't throw up but my mouth an sinuses burned for hours and it tasted awful. Then again I smoke 25 full flavour (a really weak filter) cigs a day. I just prefer smoking as an method of administration for nicotine. Smoking is quicker and more satisfying.
1,031 Mar 1st, 2010 11:35pm (Edited)
Re: The new randomness
Eh, I smoke when I drink, I enjoy it because it's something to do, and for a while (nearly two years) I smoked daily.
I just couldn't stand smelling like smoke all the time. I can take a dip out, go inside somewhere and no one knows I ever had one in. And I have both my hands, smoke isn't going in my eyes when I have to use both hands, etc.
I still smoke when I drink, but not that often.
Thing is, evidently it's a helluvalot harder to stop dipping then it is smoking, reason being one dip has about as much nicotine as 3-5 cigarettes. When you go through a can a day, that's a lot of nicotine.
1,033 Mar 2nd, 2010 12:11am
Re: The new randomness
I agree, but the oral fixation and the act of inhaling pure gratification is stronger in cigarettes than in dip, even though the dose is lower. Compare it to injecting a drug...say heroin. If you eat a gram a heroin you will get very high over the course of a few hours and be satisfied for possibly half the day (with a habit) and come down gradually and no one will know you ate it. If you smoke heroin, you get high instantly because it crosses the blood/brain barrier more rapidly than eating, snorting, or recal insertion. If you inject heroin, you get the ultimate effect by completely surpassing the blood/brain barrier mechanism and devilering pure chemical into the bloodstream, which is pumped thorugh the heart and directly into the brain. Smoking is somewhere between dipping and snuff (snorting powdered tobacco popular in europe) and injecting pure nicotine. It is more instantly graifying anf pleasureable, and therefore harder to kick.
Also, smoking is almost identical to injection in blood/brain barrier terms. Intravenous injection allows the drug to pass pure through the hypodermic, into the vein, into the ateial system, into the heart which subsequently pumps the chemical into the brain in a pure form. This causes an immediate and predictable effect in patients of any size or shape. As a comparsion, a smaller person may require 325mg of tylenol (acetaminophen) to abate a headache when someone my size would require 1000mg. Comparably, smoking causes the drug to be vaporized and absorbed into the bloodstream immediately through the aveoli of the lungs and surpasses the liver and kidneys in the same way an injected substance would. This is why crack cocaine is so popular and addictive. It allows the intravenous effect of cocaine to be experienced without poking oneself with a needle and simply smoking the crack, which provides immediate and intense gratification. Nictotine works on some of the same receptors in the brain as cocaine and heroin. It is speculated to be harder to quit than both those drugs, but I believe that to be a result of social usgae and acceptance in modern culture.

Don't look at it like you're giving something up, look at it like you are getting rid of a constant source of dependence and a financial and health burden that you don't need.
When people feel like they are giving something up or they "won't be the same" without cigarettes, that's when they go back to smoking. When you realize you were born a nonsmoker and functioned fine without cigarettes before you started, you will conclude it is no longer needed and that's when stopping is easy. Think back...it took sincere effort to even get addicted to them. No one enjoys their first smoke...or second or third but we keep puffing until we tolerate it and next thing you know we're addicted.
Because the media makes it seem that smoking is so hard to kick, people think that they are going to smokers until the day they die. You don't have to be! Look around you, more and more people are not smoking. Smoking will be a thing of the past very soon (it pretty much already is).

Re: The new randomness
I have considered quitting recently but I cannot keep lying to myself. I love every cigarette I smoke. It's a ritual that I enjoy and as long as I keep smoking weed (which I never plan on giving up) I will probably be smoking cigs as well.

Re: The new randomness
What's hilarious is the amount of people that smoke in Europe (Germany specifically), yet they have a longer life span then us.
It's not tobacco that's killing us, it's the food we eat and the lack of exercise.
Even more in France and Italy than in Germany. Text hidden from non-elite members.

Re: The new randomness
Yeah, actually Faith and I had a dog that used to do things like that as well. He didn't care much for toys but he liked dragging things around the yeard, like with your dog...for no reason. This dog was strong as an ox and was known around town as the Houdini Dog because he could jump 6 or 8 foot fences (climb up them with his paws) and squeeze through tiny spaces (between a closed gate, for instance) running really fast and not even thinking about what a small space it was. LOL! Anyways he was an awesome dog. Tragically, we had to put him to sleep after he got mauled by 3 other huge dogs in a fight over the neighbor's girl dog...who was basically Bear's gf (his name was Bear). His leg got basically torn off and there was no saving it. So we had to euthanize him, but we will always have the memories. He was one crazy dog.
My dog Dexter (yes, I still have him) is like 13 years old and his time is probably not far off. He is doing well besides being a bit blind and deaf and kinda foolish acting sometimes. He will, forinstance, dig at the hardwood floor like he can see something we can't. Or bark in the middle of the night at dogs he thinks he hears. It's hilarious.
